Aux Cerfs is a large island, of nearly 100
hectares in area, off the east coast of Mauritius close to the coastal
village of Trou D'Eau Douce in the district of Flacq.
It is a favourite recreational
spot for both Mauritians and tourists alike, with its picture-perfect
calm emerald-blue waters.
For years the hotel group Sun Resort Ltd has
operated two restaurants, a bar, and a boathouse and provided other
beach amenities on the island (including toilets - this is the only
developed islet with such facilities !!!).
The Sun Resort group is going ahead with a golf
project on this island, despite the general
public protest against the golf course. It is worth mentioning that
the group has leasehold rights on the sister island, Ilot
Mangénie where access is restricted to the guests of
one of the group 5-star hotel, Le Touessrok.
A paying ferry service
operated by various contractors from the mainland to the island
used by tourists and the public alike. BBQ lunches, tents and various
tourist operators profilerated on the island until April 200 when
cooking or camping has been banned.
Some 10 minutes away by speedboat from Ile aux Cerfs is the mouth
of the longest river in Mauritius, the Grand River South East. Entering
the mouth of this river, one will admire the nice waterfall (it's
just a little bit smaller than the Niagara falls in Canada !!!)
and if water permits, swimming in one of the 'bassins' is possible.
We have a top selling package
including the ferry service, a picnic lunch on the island (feet
in the sand!!) and the visit to the waterfalls for Rs. 550 per person.
What a wonderful day you will spend on this piece of paradise !!!
